WHO IS THIS FOR?

The class has been highly appreciated by both beginners and advanced bakers and it is designed for both. How it works:

  • For beginners: it covers 100% of the steps from managing the starter to baking the loaf, with basic questions answered, but also listening in to more advanced questions being asked by more advanced participants. For instance, beginners who felt discouraged after previous classes they took or books they read, were successful after this class
  • Intermediate and advanced bakers get the opportunity to experiment with new approaches and to ask more advanced questions. I had home bakers with years of experience, micro bakery owners, and restaurant professionals at my class, enjoying and learning new things

Useful information

– Should you want to take notes, I can provide pen & paper for you to use on the day

– Water, coffee, tea & light lunch will be provided. Should you have any strict dietary requirements, please get in touch before booking a seat for this workshop

– All the ingredients and tools you need to prepare the dough on the day will be provided, including an apron for you to wear during the class

– Class starts at 10am, please arrive 5-10 minutes early so that the class can start on time

– We aim to finish around 4.30-5pm

– Location for the class is in Kensal Rise, London

– Easy access with the Bakerloo line to Kensal Rise or with the overground either to Kensal Rise or Kensal Green. Should you decide to come by car, I can get you a visitor parking permit for the entire day for £5

– Class is NOT suitable for a gluten free diet

– This sourdough bread workshop is suitable for 16-year-olds and above

If you book a seat and in the meantime you cannot make it anymore on that date, that’s ok. Notify me via email (sourdoughexplained@gmail.com) up to 7 days before the workshop and I can arrange a refund. You can also opt to swap (free of charge) for another date

 

A minimum of 4 participants is required for the Sourdough bread workshop to take place. If not I might have to cancel the session. Should this happen, a refund will be arranged should the new proposed date not be suitable for the participants.

    A wonderful day spent with Andra, she has a tremendous knowledge of everything sourdough, we came along as complete beginners to the making side of bread, we regularly eat Sourdough and often try find the best bakeries in London to buy it, and now we have the knowledge to try at home to bake our own. Andra’s expertise is impressive, from the Starter to how to slice bread, temperatures, ratios… you can’t learn this in books on or instagram… to feel the dough, watch Andra’s techniques, do’s and don’ts and what’s better, there is no ego, no taking videos for her Insta reel. Simply a strong humble woman sharing her sourdough journey with a gift of teaching others. We baked bread and ate lunch and it was the BEST bread I’ve had. Period. An intimate setting of 6 participants meant that we could ask all the questions based on our home bakes.     As an absolute beginner I attended Andra’s workshop back in the summer of 2024. It was so much more than I expected it to be. There were 6 of us in the group, which felt like a perfect number of people and the set-up at her absolutely stunning house in north London was amazing. She showed us every single step of the breadmaking journey from starter to final product. She was beyond patient and answered all of our questions over the course of the day. We got to sample the breads over an incredible lunch, which was also more than I expected with a large selection of cheese and meats. I left buzzing and excited to start on the bread journey. The course is well worth the money and I will be returning for a refresher very soon.

    I have attended many different culinary workshops over the past 5 years or so, both in the UK and other parts of the world. By far, this has been my favourite out of all of them, for so many reasons: the equipment provided, the setting (her kitchen is gorgeous!!), the coffee, lunch, and of course… all the details on how to make sourdough bread!

    Andra is so passionate about sourdough and loves teaching the rest of us all about it. She’s been able to ‘hand hold’ me on understanding the process from maintaining your starter, to preparing my loaf, ready to be baked. She was able to de-mystify a lot of the things we see on social media and can’t get our head around it. She’s keeping the numbers of attendees small, which means everyone can ask loads of questions and will get answers!

    I loved the whole thing, I couldn’t recommend it more, even if I tried. You will NOT regret attending this, and will leave Andra’s place with a full belly (from the lunch), warm heart and all the knowledge you need to go and make your own sourdough bread. Of course, you will also take your prepared loaf, that will be ready to be baked when you get home .

    I had a fantastic day at Andra’s in person sourdough bread workshop. It was all I had hoped for and more. I’d decided I’d like to make sourdough for me and my family a few months ago but the vastly differing advice and complicated instructions really made it hard. I’d do a recipe and when it didn’t work, I’d not know which way to turn to make it right.

    Andra put an end to the confusion. She simplified the process and then explained where the extra complexities can lie and how to put all the logic together. I’d have spent months wasting time getting frustrated with it all and could have given up without her!

    I loved the hands on approach to learning, feeling the dough seeing it smelling it, understanding what is a good sign and the signs that you’re doing something wrong.

    On top of that it was a lovely homely environment where any questions were welcomed and lunch was super yumee.

I come from the Netherlands and after taking 6 professional commercial bread making lessons, I threw myself into sourdough with full dedication and the expectation of a good result. That was a bit disappointing. I booked the workshop with Andra together with a fellow student from the Netherlands. So much more became clear! To feel what you need to feel with your hands (instead of watching hundreds of videos on social media and then thinking you can do the same). Andra is calm, patient, explains in understandable language and the small group of students is a relief. If you want to learn about sourdough, Andra is your woman. Also credits to her husband, for the coffee, tea, lunch, everything was taken care of down to the last detail. Very grateful for the wonderful day, I will never forget it.

It gave me so much confidence and satisfaction. It speaks volumes for Andra’s highly comprehensive method and clearly excellent starter that you get to take home. Her guide book, you also get following the day, as well her instagram are an incredible resource. I love the fact despite having a method to follow, the process teaches you to adapt and adjust to the elements and how it is responding (it’s alive after all), so there is an element of flow and trust to it all, a great lesson for me personally! The many possible ways of troubleshooting as you adapt and familiarize yourself with it are all simply broken down by Andra’s wealth of experience in the E book. Andra demystifies and debunks what can make sourdough baking feel overwhelming and her bread is exactly the kind of bread my boyfriend and I love.     I attended one of Andra’s workshops last Saturday as a beginner, and following her class, my bread turned out great – to say the least. I started baking a few months ago and had only followed her advice and recipes shared on Instagram.

    The class provides all the knowledge you need to achieve amazing loaves at home. The day begins with coffee, brewed by her husband in their beautiful kitchen setting. As a specialty coffee lover, I really appreciated the attention to detail in the coffee-making process.

    We then got to make bread, and Andra explained everything very thoroughly – no question was left unanswered. She’s a highly skilled teacher. We had lunch in her garden, where we tasted her bread and focaccia, along with high-quality foods.

    There’s clearly a lot of work going on behind the scenes to organize such a well-rounded experience, and I truly believe it offers great value for money. In fact, I think the price could be higher given everything that’s included.

    I’d recommend this class to anyone interested in sourdough – from beginner to intermediate level and beyond.

    The workshop is very well structured. You get the chance to go through the entire process alongside 5–6 other people who are just as passionate as you are (isn’t that amazing?!) and ask all your questions about how to achieve the best results.     I received this experience as a gift and as a beginner baker I was a bit trepidatious about whether would all go over my head. I couldn’t have been more wrong.

    Andra provided the perfect environment for someone like me to watch, listen and learn, then put it into practice myself. I left not only pleased that it hadn’t gone in one ear and out the other but that I’d found the whole process fun and interesting.

    The day as a whole was such a wonderful experience-invited into her wonderful home and kitchen my partner and I were part of a group of 6 with various levels of experience. We initially chatted about the process before getting our hands stuck in.

    In-between each session at the bowl Andra talked us through the general process from starter to finished product. Giving us clear expectations of what good looks like and what could be signs of things going slightly wrong.

    We had a lunch break and ate probably the best focaccia I’ve ever had in my life along with some amazing sourdough followed by lots more questions.

    As we finished of the day Andra showed us all how to shape our dough and sent us on our way with bread to bake and a smile one our faces.

    We would recommend this to anyone regardless of skill, such a lovely day with a wonderful teacher.

    I had the chance to spend a whole day baking with Andra and what a wholesome day it was. The day is so well structured. There is time to knead, to fold, to bake, to eat (delicious food), to have coffee. She’s very thorough with the information she provides and wants you to leave as knowledgeable as possible. We were 5 women, all with different levels of baking and whatever questions we had for her, she had them answered. By the way the course is ran you can tell she’s done this so many times and that she baked thousands of loaves, but this doesn’t take anything away from the love, energy and genuine care she pours into the whole experience.
